My first completed weavings of this century!
Well, I got up the courage to weave a couple of inkle belts for Christmas presents for two of my co-workers . They came out pretty well, considering I hadn't touched a loom since the 30th anniversary of the Handweavers Guild three years ago, where I just demonstrated inkle. I haven't actually woven a complete item since the mid-90's.
The designs were dictated by yarn availability. My friends Joyce and Sarah gave me a bagful of assorted DMC embroidery cotton skeins (size 3) with very few duplicates of color. So each color on the warp was limited by the length of the skein. The weft was a 5/2 black perle cotton.

Both belts were done with plain weave - no pickup. The designs were entirely in the threading.

These are beautiful. I didn't realize you were a weaver also...
I haven't done any weaving since I got married but used to find it very relaxing and rewarding.
Beautiful work
endment - I'd almost forgotten about this blog! I put up the blog to show our guild members the photos I took at their sale. (I was one of the founders of the Tucson Handweaver's Guild and was its first president.) The belts are my only work on this page. I used to teach inkle weaving. My looms are currently dust-gatherers as I concentrate on photography and my job, but it's definitely time I got back to weaving. I promised Sonia I'd put up some more photos of my own work. Hope to do that during the next month or so.
Pam-
Those are beautiful and weaving is something I've always wanted to try my hand at.
jim - Weaving is a wonderful art and craft. I like it because I enjoy playing with colours and textures. It's time consuming, but you can get beautiful results. I hope you get a chance to try it.
Good on ya! Wish we had some here for xmas gifts for our holiday bed and breakfast guests.
Thank you for posting the inkle belts. It's been 30 (?) years since I wove an inkle belt. Recently I took my inkle loom out of storage and placed it on the carpet next to my drawing table. Your post is just the inspiration I need!
gp - Thanks for writing. My handweaving is on hold for a while, but I expect to be back at it early in 2007. I found your B&B web site - looks like a fine place to relax. I wish you happiness and success in the coming year.
am - Hope you get weaving again. There's a lot of satisfaction in inkle since it goes so quickly. I do pickup, too, which is much more meticulous. I see from your blog profile that we have interests in common (Celtic, Sherman Alexie, among others). All the best for 2007.
beautiful weavings!
how are the hummimngirds doing your way?
